Gateway introduces new All-in-One ZX One PC

Just like their sister company Acer, Gateway has announced the release of a new all-in-one PC design, the ZX One series. The category of all-in-one PC’s has been growing rapidly as consumers are looking for cost effective, space saving computers that can handle every day productivity and home entertainment. While the first generation of all-in-one PC’s were a little under-powered, the price vs. performance ratio of the newest PC components means that the latest models have much better performance. The Gateway One series feature a curved bottom edge to make them stand out a little more than competitors ‘square’ designs, and there is lighting along the bottom edge to illuminate the wireless keyboard. Also the addition of a wireless keyboard means that they can be wall mounted, which would be very useful if the PC was being used somewhere like the kitchen, to free up counter space.

In Canada you can choose from four different models. The ZX6951 model is the top-end model at $1299.99, and has Core i5 650 CPU, 6GB of RAM, Blu-Ray combo drive, an ATI HD5450 graphics card and a 23” 1080p touch-screen display. These specifications make this a fairly capable gaming machine, and the addition of Blu-Ray makes it a perfect entertainment PC for the den. At the bottom end of the range, at $799.99, is the ZX4351 model that uses an AMD Athlon II X4 605e CPU, has 4GB of RAM, a 640GB hard-drive, an 8x DVD-RW, integrated GeForce 9200 graphics, and a 21.5” 1080p touch-screen display. While it is certainly not a power-house by any stretch of the imagination, it still should be more than capable of most home computing tasks.

It’s clear, from the plethora of all-in-one’s coming out, that PC manufacturers see this form factor as the way of the future for most home PC’s. There will always be a place for standard PC’s, as gaming, business, or content creation machines, since they need to be powerful and expandable. However for the average family an all-in-one is a very compelling choice.

The Gateway One series can be found at major Canadian retailers such as Future Shop here.
